About the Band
Nobody's Business is a well rounded, guitar driven, Rockabilly/Roots Rock trio from Detroit, MI formed in 1994 by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Bill Giorgio. Rounding out the line-up are David Roof on upright and electric bass, and Steve Sundown on the skins keepin' the rockin' beat, with both these seasoned veterans sharing vocals as well.
We have recorded 4 full-length CDs, 'Waykool Rock & Roll' (produced by Stray Cats' bass player Lee Rocker), 'Good to Go', 'Oh Yeah!' and 'Ain't Life Grand.' As of December 2019, we have been up and running/playing for 25 years. We celebrated that milestone with our 5th release, a 5 song EP entitled NB 5.
These recordings feature almost all original material which reflect our deep roots that draw upon Rockabilly, R & B, Swing, Blues, Rock and Country genres, including strong harmony vocals, that give NB it's own explosive, smoldering and unique roots rock sound.
The Players
Bill Giorgio - Vocals/Guitar
As singer, songwriter, guitarist, and manager for Nobody’s Business, Bill is certainly paying his rock and roll dues. His singing style is as authentic as it is original. While sporting a Gibson 335 hollow body guitar, his style and sound are clean, mean and straight to the point. Bill’s no nonsense attitude and cool stage demeanor can only be described as – Nobody’s Business.
Dave Roof - Upright Bass/Vocals
Whether he’s spinnin’ that doghouse (bass) on its tailpiece or groovin’ along like rollin’ thunder, Dave is “the man” when it comes to holdin’ down the bottom for this rockin’ trio. As an added treat, Dave also sings pitch perfect harmony vocals. Dave’s impressive background includes stints with the Starlight Drifters and the Tom Maxwell band. He's even had the honor of recording and producing the band's last two albums at his own studio, Rooftop Recording.
Steve "Sundown" Wandless - Drums/Vocals
His name is Steve Waundless but you can call him Sundown. Keepin' the beat for Nobody's Business is his business and he takes it seriously. From rocking out, to finesse playing with brushes or "rim-clicking" on the snare, Steve does it all on his bright yellow vintage Gretsch kit. Aside from looking good, Steve has the chops, intensity and meter that truly "talk the talk" but most importantly "walk the walk."
The Whole Story
I have been playing music in the Detroit Metro area for over 30 years. I started out fronting my 1st band, The Waykools, in 1984. I also performed with The Rockabilly Cats on rhythm guitar and The Chevelles playing rhythm and lead guitar throughout the late '80s.
In 1994, I started my current band and one of my life's passions, Nobody's Business, with my brother Chris Giorgio on drums and Artie Wolfe on electric and upright bass and vocals. After Artie left the band, Rudy Kowalski, front man of The Rockabilly Cats, stepped in to play electric bass. In 1996, we recorded our 1st CD, Waykool Rock and Roll, which was produced by Stray Cat bass player Lee Rocker. We did many shows together, including our 1st house gig on Tuesday nights at The Office on Telegraph Road, currently known as The Bullfrog. This is where we met and befriended many of the usual suspects that have been on the rockabilly/roots rock scene in the D.
Chris and I continued to perform together with Jim McKinsey on upright and electric bass and harmony vocals. Chris then left the band and Steve Sundown took over on drums in 1997. Artie rejoined the band just in time to record our 2nd CD, Good To Go, in 1998 which was produced by our good friend George Canterbury, who has played piano on all the NB CDs.
After the CD was released, Jim took over bass duties full-time and once again the line-up remained intact until early 2000 (except for a short run with Rudy on bass.) At this point, we started what was to become our most successful on-going house gig at The New Way Bar in Ferndale on Thursday nights. This opportunity lasted for 5 years from 1999 through 2004 and along the way we had many, many fun and exciting nights. We met and performed with a who's who list of local talent. We also opened for many national touring acts that came through town.
In 2000, Dave Roof joined the band on upright bass and harmony vocals. His presence and contributions have been a game changer for NB. We recorded our 3rd CD, Oh Yeah!, in 2005, which was produced by none other than Dave Roof. Shortly after, we became a mainstay at the Ferndale's Woodward Dream Cruise for 6 years.
Upon doing a side project with Kingdrifter, I had the pleasure of meeting and performing with Scott Martin. After the Kingdrifter project broke up and Steve Sundown left NB, Scott joined the band in 2010 playing drums and singing harmony vocals with Dave and added just the right chemistry that has taken us to the next level. Thankfully, this line-up stayed intact for 12 years. It took awhile, but in 2015, we recorded our 4th CD, Ain't Life Grand, with Dave performing and producing and Scott on board at Dave's studio Rooftop Recording in Grand Blanc.
On May 7, 2022, Scott was given a proper send-off with style at Bowlero Lanes and Lounge in Royal Oak. We've enjoyed playing together all this time, performing over 300 shows. It was a bittersweet moment in that we miss Scott, but fully embrace his reasons for departure. Steve Sundown has returned as drummer for the band.
